Open role

Doctoral Student or Postdoctoral Fellow in Clinical AI

We are building the agentic AI systems needed to make proactive cardiovascular care possible at scale. Working with longitudinal records from some of the world's largest health systems, these systems will identify eligible patients and surface evidence-based next steps for clinical review. The work will progress from method development to real-world clinical evaluation. You will lead a distinct line of inquiry within this program, with mentorship across machine learning, clinical epidemiology, and translation into practice.

We seek exceptional candidates with an outstanding academic record and a demonstrated commitment to rigorous, reproducible science. First-author publications are valued and are a prerequisite for postdoctoral applicants. Equally important are kindness, intellectual humility, and a sense of humor: we take the science seriously and ourselves a little less so.

Candidates may come from computer science, engineering, biomedical data science, statistics, medicine, or related fields. Postdoctoral applicants should bring deep technical expertise; doctoral applicants should demonstrate strong technical aptitude and the ambition to develop it further.

Note: doctoral students must first be admitted to a Stanford doctoral program. If you are not yet admitted, start with Stanford's graduate programs (opens in a new tab).

Medicine does not need AI for AI's sake. It needs systems grounded in clinical need, tested with scientific rigor, and built to improve outcomes safely, equitably, and at scale.

We already know the answer to life, the universe, and everything is 42. Our work is to ask better clinical questions, build useful answers, and prove when those answers deserve to change care.
